Desmond Doss. (2021). Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmond_Doss
The main use of this source was for accessing the information regarding his awards and decorations he received during and after his service in The Second World War. On this website, I also found the different honours he has received around the country, even after his death in 2006. Moreover, I developed a greater understanding of his family tree and I displayed this throughout my learning centre.
Desmond Doss Council. (2016). Desmond Doss: The Conscientious Objector. Desmond Doss. https://desmonddoss.com/index.php
I was able to get far more specific dates on his service during The Second World War when fighting in battles such as Guam, Philippines, and in Hacksaw Ridge. In addition, I sourced many of my images that I used throughout my learning centre from this website. Moreover, I used this source to gain further access to even more sources of information that I used briefly throughout my research.
Gibson, M. (2016). Hacksaw Ridge. Lionsgate.
The film of Hacksaw Ridge told the entirety of Desmond Doss’ story from his childhood until his evacuation from Hacksaw Ridge. I was able to source a lot of his young childhood stories from this movie since it had been in collaboration with a lot of Desmond Doss’ family. The film’s pre-production even had Desmond Doss involved. The most significant story I used from his childhood was where he almost took his brother’s life. In addition, I was also able to retrieve some of his quotes while he was on the ridge from this film to get a better understanding of how he spoke.
Private First Class Desmond Thomas Doss, US Army: Medal of Honour Series. (2020). The National WWII Museum. https://www.nationalww2museum.org/war/articles/private-first-class-desmond-thomas-doss-medal-of-honor
From this website, I gained a better understanding of his overall story during his life. In addition, I built a more in-depth knowledge of his Christian beliefs. More specifically, his Seventh-day Adventist beliefs where he would strictly object to working and killing on the Saturday sabbath. Furthermore, there was far more description on this site about his specific service on Hacksaw Ridge and his regiment’s role and their actions taken out.
